Gingham Love

“I’m addicted to gingham,” my friend Jessie texted me yesterday. And I agree — recently I’ve been spotting the checked pattern everywhere and loving it more than ever. It feels so cheerful, and it’s popping up on clothing, accessories and home goods. Here are five pretty styles: bag, shirt, dress, sweater and top.

And then there’s Heather Taylor Home!!! Can you imagine a gingham bedroom? All the heart eyes.

OMG! I had a Barneys navy gingham blazer I purchased 25+ years ago. I wore the elbows and inner lining to shreds. Found this similar version by J Crew and bought a size 6 & 8.

I love gingham too! I’m from Australia and I think it has such fresh and Summery connotations of picnics and school uniforms.
I’ve just bought some beautiful navy and blush gingham bed linen from Castle and Things by amazing Australian artist, Rachel Castle which clashes with her other linen in stripes and other sweet patterns.
I get so excited to go to bed!

I grew up in a totally gingham accented bedroom – bedspread, curtains, etc. I hated it at the time, but kind of love this iteration of it. It’s funny how everything comes back!

It’s tough wearing gingham here in Utah because you instantly start emitting pioneer wife vibes. It’s how I imagine east coasters feel about the “Founding Fathers” low parted ponytail.

I adore gingham. All the memories of my youth come alive and I am swept back to summertime, wearing bibs and a sleeveless cotton gingham blouse.
Recently my good friend shared her distaste for the fabric and I was crushed because I felt alone in my walk back in time. Gingham is Dorothy, and Laura Ignalls. Wilder, and the Waltons. It’s tablecloths with a picnic basket. Gingham is the one fabric that colors stand alone, defending themselves on a white background. I guess gingham is just that, a plain and simple print that doesn’t scream I’m here, unlike paisley. It whispers I’m free, blowing in the breeze on a clothesline or gently kissing an open window sill in summer. Oh the stories gingham can tell.

@tee, i would agree with you, seriously! however, before reading this post, i was lying in bed with my toddler, who had just fallen asleep, browsing on the h&m site and i spotted a lilac gingham blouse WITH a ruffle. Not my style really, but I don’t know, the image of something so light and playful instantly took hold of me. i was imagining wearing it with grey or blue jeans and birkenstocks, sold! I think with all the stress and mayhem due to covid, i craved frilly and easy going, who knows! extra glad to know it’s actually on trend :)

Gingham is most definitely timeless! I just finished repurposing the yellow and white gingham curtains that hung in my daughter’s bedroom 15-20 years ago into cheery curtains for a trailer/guest house she just bought. A bit of home, a bit of sunshine!

I love gingham but don’t have any. I did have a violet gingham bedding when I was little too. I had my eye on a black and white coverup from Christy Dawn for the longest time. I should check on it again.

I’ve always loved gingham. I made myself a bright green and white gingham check crinkle cloth bathrobe last spring. Crinkle cloth is a little heavier than gauze so you can’t see through it, but has the same texture. I trimmed it with eyelet ruffles, and I love the way it turned out.

My sister’s room had yellow gingham bedding in the 80s! With a matching canopy and big daisy wallpaper. It all comes back!

My bedspread is blue and white gingham! It’s a quilt that was passed down to me from my mother. Her grandmother made it! So it’s extra special that way.

I really like gingham! But all the tech bros I work with wear some version of that ubiquitous navy/white gingham button-up shirt, which has kinda ruined it for me lately. :-|

To me, gingham is like the smell of your favorite meal cooking in your Mom’s kitchen, it reminds me of home. My Mom has used gingham in nearly every application my whole life: clothes, linens, etc. I’ve always loved it. I’m happy to see it pop back up in popularity every once in a while. I think it’s such a sweet, innocent patten.

I have a pair of blue and white gingham stilettos, they are horribly uncomfortable but about once a year I sport them out to lunch or dinner when I know I can sit for the most part ha. Damn you gingham and your irresistible allure!

Why does this look so fresh? I love it! It always amazes me how patterns/styles come back around, or suddenly seem new even though they’ve been around forever.

I was just out walking my dog and saw a woman in huge bell bottom jeans and she looked AMAZING. If you had asked me a year ago about bell bottoms I would have thrown up haha
