My Five Top Beauty Finds

It’s been a minute since we’ve talked about favorite beauty products, so I thought I’d ask: Are there any finds you’re into lately? Here are the five things I’ve been using the most these days (and I’d love to hear yours)…

For hair:

As a long-time proponent of the $18 hot air brush, I never owned a “fancy” hair tool. All my tools hailed from the drugstore and worked just fine, thankyouverymuch. Then, early this year, I was out of town for a friend’s wedding (a distant memory when both travel and gatherings were without question) and my drugstore curling iron bit the dust. The only thing near the hotel was an upscale shopping center, where I begrudgingly bought this curling iron to style my hair. At the time, I was annoyed, but let me tell you, it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. When it’s too hot (or I’m too busy or lazy) to deal with blow drying, I let my hair air dry and then add some definition with the curling iron. The result is shiny curls and waves that last and last (for around two days or until it’s time to wash it again). Now I see what all the hype is about!

To that end, when air drying, the Matte Waves Texture Lotion is the best product I’ve tried. Simply run it through wet hair and then let the air do its thing. The effect is like salt spray, but better, because it won’t dry out your hair.

For skin:

Sometimes, you need a fresh start. For an overall refresh, Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial is a gentle yet powerful exfoliating mask made with chickpeas and magic (actually a blend of glycolic, tartaric, lactic, citric and salicylic acids). You leave it on for 20 minutes, then rinse it off and see results instantly. It improves the look of pores and skin texture and makes your whole face glow. (If you have very sensitive skin, however, you may want to skip this one.)

The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask has garnered a cult following, and with good reason. You can use it overnight, as intended, or as a regular lip balm, and it makes your lips feel soft and hydrated. But that’s not the reason I love it. I’m quite partial to the vanilla flavor, which has the exact same subtle-yet-unmistakable scent as vanilla instant pudding, from childhood. Every time I put it on, I get a blast of nostalgia. And one pot lasts seemingly forever.

This last one isn’t so much a find as a regular old appliance, but I am loving… the fridge. I keep some toning mist and eye cream in there, for a refreshing pick-me-up at the end of a long day (or sometimes in the middle of one). Whenever I feel bogged down, I’ll grab some chilled face mist, light my favorite candle, and keep on going, feeling a little bit better.
