As someone who had one Asian parent and one more European heritage parent I relate to this idea of features being a melting pot that I once resented but have come to love. I am nowhere near ready for children but part of my is excited to see the mix of features they could have

I see it as generous and sensual.

My hair dresser even encouraged me! Now I’ve got a silvery gray short crop…and since it hasn’t been dyed in months, feels thick and healthy….several people have said it looks way better than when I was coloring it a reddish brown, and yesterday I saw someone I hadn’t seen in a year, and she said, “Don’t ever go back! It looks amazing!”

I had always been self conscious of my mouth/teeth because they are on the bigger side – until a few years ago a friend told me how he was so jealous of my “Julia Roberts smile”. It was such an enlightening moment, and probably the best (physical) compliment I could ever hope to receive. Now every time I fall into being self conscious I try to think about how it’s possible someone else might see my self-perceived flaws as something beautiful.

And I totally agree with this comment, “To me, the most luminous person in the world is a white-haired woman with wrinkled hands and watery eyes.”

They’re my mum’s ankles, my nana’s ankles, my two aunts ankles. Growing up they were a little like sticks on a long body – a bit out of proportion and gangly. Now when I look in the mirror I’m just reminded of the line of women that came before me and that’s special to me.
