Travel Fantasy: Where Would You Go?

If money & covid were not a problem, I would most definitely want to go to Italy!! Visiting Italy is THE #1 item on my bucket list, but like many other people, I’ll probably never get the chance to scratch this off my list. I’ll continue to dream about going and, with any luck, my dream will become a reality one day!

Costa Rica! Finally heading up there this October.

The Star Inn burnt down in November! Suspected arson! There’s one in York, though (which is stunning in all respects)

Germany! My husbands great grandma just turned 100 in November! She has gotten to meet one great-great grandchild (our 3yo) but hasn’t gotten to meet our 6mo old yet. I hope that we can all visit asap. She has the best stories and always tells us she’s just living on borrowed time now.

Love this! Does anyone have any advice on visiting Cape Cod/Martha’s Vineyard area? We are very hopeful to plan a little Boston trip with friends in May! We would do Boston for a few days, catch a game and then head to the coast. Any thoughts or advice on where to stay on the coast would be awesome! Thanks, friends!

There’s a couple of places. Iceland is pretty high up my list. So is Egypt (the ancient bits), which I’ve been fascinated by since I was a little child. However, I don’t currently think Egypt is the safest place for a lone western woman to travel to. I’d have to do it as an organised tour I think.

I’m in England, so if you fancy a tour of the midlands, gimme a shout!

I’d love to take my family to CDMX! My kiddo is 7 tho and Casa Luis Barragan is for 10+ so we will have to wait. Hopefully we will have a better handle on covid by then. The first and last time I went, I missed out on Casa Azul. But we did have lunch at one of the floating farms on Xochimilco, which was my favorite part of the trip. I’d also love to take my kiddo to a lucha libre match.

My mom and her family are on the west coast, so a YVR-SEA-PDX trip via train and then a quick flight to SFO would also be really fun if I can swing 2 weeks off.

Because we have family there, I’ve been to England more than almost anywhere else (I’m also from Michigan so I’ve seen plenty of Up North too!), but it’s still my favorite place to go. I love the road trip idea and when it’s winter nothing sounds coozie than a pub with a pint. I miss traveling!!!

I have a weird fascination with really remote places. Usually cold ones. Would love to go to Greenland, Svalbard, Finnish Lapland and Faroe Islands some day. I just think it’s so interesting that people live in these places where hardly anyone else lives in and that so much of their livelihoods are intertwined with the environment. I love to Instagram stalk these locations and see what life looks like through the eyes of a 30-something like me.

Living in Western Australia, I used to take yearly trips to Bali. I miss that place so much and can’t wait to go again someday. I’ve also never been to Japan and Im dying to try all the delicious food in Tokyo and beyond.

For whatever reason, I’ve been wanting to go back to Singapore, lah. I guess I’ll just have to re-read Crazy Rich Asians….

One day last year while a pandemic stifled life outside, my sister and I sat in our mother’s room, just being together in her last days, which in itself was something of a miracle. We chatted and laughed, listened to music and just sat in peace. Our dreams of traveling to Ireland together were never going to happen, but right then it didn’t matter at all. We talked about the little village in Ireland where her grandfather grew up. Mom had been there, but my sister and I hadn’t. She told us the places we needed to see, and how she had felt at home even though she’d never been there before. Together we visualized the deep green grassy valley, dotted with white sheep and the unsteady cobblestone streets and the land where our history lays buried. We promised her that we would take the grand adventure there together. Later, privately we vowed to make it happen, with or without husbands in tow. It’s been 10 months since she passed away, but I still find a smile when I think about what she told us the next day. She told us that she dreamed that when we were in Ireland, she would come to see us. She said that in Ireland where heaven and earth are so close together, she will come to us and pull our hair and poke our bellies so that we will know that she is there. So now, with travel restrictions still in place, I idle away hours thinking of that trip to come, and the hope that perhaps while walking thru a chilly stone street, or a perhaps next to a blazing fire in a cozy pub I will feel that tug on my hair or tickle on my stomach and know that she is there with me.

Mexico!! I’ve been dreaming of going to a beautiful resort with just my husband for 3 long years. I want to lay on the beach, read some books, drink margaritas and eat chips and guac. Maybe some day we’ll get there!

I think I’d want to go to South Korea – over the last few years I’ve become really fond of Korean cuisine and pop culture and would *love* to visit there!

I travelled–flying- constantly for work for 30 years so my dream is to STAY HOME. But then maybe after a few years of that, Scotland, Shetlands, Orkneys, islands off the west coast of Scotland. I would love to go to NZ but the idea of being on a plane for that long makes me want to lie down. I’d be happy never being on an airplane ever again.

How romantic! I studied abroad in Canterbury and often daydream about going back..alone!!

I’ve seen all of the US (parents LOVED road trips growing up). The only ‘international’ trips i’ve taken were a camping trip as a college kid on an island off of Puerto Rico and a Marching Band summer tour of Canada as a teenager. I want to go somewhere I have to cross an ocean. Specifically: The Amalfi coast with just my beautiful husband. Per a post you did a year ago? I bought a spaghetti strap black midi dress and it hangs in my closet begging to go somewhere. I imagine this trip all the time. Just my husband and I sipping wine, sleeping in, good cheese, the ocean breeze, making out in quiet corners and on the beach. Sigh. For now…we’ll just hang in chilly Minnesota and be thankful for our darling girls and our health.

A return to Europe, Canada, Japan and South Korea but on a slower pace. Included in my travel fantasy list are Mexico, India, New Zealand, South America, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, etc.
The pandemic and medical issues made me realized to relish and savor my future travels and be grateful for the previous experiences and opportunities.
More independent and solo travels in the future.

This post makes me soooo nostalgic for something that never happened! In March 2020 I was supposed to take a trip to England with my then-5 year old and my mom, it was so hard to let go of that disappointment. I went to grad school there and most of my visits have been just to libraries so I was beyond excited to have a more exploratory visit to places I’ve always loved. Hoping some version of a trip there will happen someday with my younger child too, though that possibility seems incredibly remote at the moment.

Morocco, Greece, Portugal, Vietnam, and then round it off with a visit to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

Oh!I see that The Star Inn has had a terrible time of it last month with an awful fire.. I hope they can regroup. So sad for such a lovely place
