Yes, a small pond in Idaho with a set of swans that appear year after year, surrounded by Lodge Pole Pines that sway in the morning breeze and in the heat of the afternoon smell like summer. I can go there in a moment when my soul needs quiet and get there in just a few hours when my body needs comfort.

We got married in a forest for this very reason. Because forests are holy. We wanted a sacred place for our sacred union. The earth’s cathedral. Nothing built could ever come close.

Well, since somebody asked for an Oregon coast itinerary, I love Neskowin and doing the Cascade Head hike. Magestic cliffs, old growth Sitka spruce and if you do it in spring it will be misty and salmon berries/salal/skunk cabbage are blooming. Have you ever read Braiding Sweetgrass? That is the hike in the chapter about salmon returning home.
