So interesting! If you are following this, Tyler, would you share what some of those decisions are? I ask because I live in a 1940s era house, probably about 1200 sqft including an updated basement. The layout/style are very traditional–closed-plan, wall radiators, molding/skirting board, etc. Not necessarily what one would choose if building today, but surprisingly practical (in-kitchen pantry, enormous linen closet, minimal transitional hallway space, windows in every room with sills deep enough to serve as shelves, trim and fingerplates that keep the walls clean).

Family of 5 in a 3 bedroom, 1500 sq ft. It’s perfect and we use all of the space daily!

Our home is a 3-bedroom house. When we bought it, we were a family of four, but now have 3 kids. A few people asked if we were going move when we were expecting our third child, but nope! The two littlies (a boy, 2 and girl, 5) share a room and LOVE it. It’s FINE and great for kids to bunk up!

We live in a 600 sq home, which we love. On our front porch we have a framed sampler that says: “Tiny House / You are really very small / Just big enough for Love / That’s all” So cute! I love your quote, as well, so true!

Actually, this response is for Emma, re first/second/third space. The first space is the home; the second place is usually considered work/school, wherever we ‘go’ every day (or week days), usually a responsibility. The third space is where we go for fun, escape, relaxation; it might be habitual – like the local pub, it may become a third community in our lives, or it may just be a place to go and walk, someplace outside the home and work/school with no rules, no responsibilities, just a place to relax and maybe connect and talk about the events of the day. I was just talking about this concept with my daughter, how this third space is missing in so many peoples lives, and it is definitely necessary, especially for young people – there needs to be a place for teenagers to just go and hang out, and we have lost this so much in our current (US) society. Anyway, I hope this answers your question! This concept of three spaces can make for some great discussion.
