All wines we tasted were fantastic, but we settled on the Cab and a short walk down a shady limestone path to a multi-level covered deck overlooking the San Marcos River to enjoy watching folks tubing the river and the pleasant breezes.
My Friday night plans include always trying to stay up later, but falling asleep before midnight. I feel like after I hit 20 all the energy I had when I was in my teens was drained from me. It truly sucks that I cannot stay up late enough to go to the bar and have more than one drink because by the time I finish the first I’m ready for bed! I can’t believe all I ever wanted as a teen was to finally to be an adult… It’s not as glamorous as it seemed and I feel gypped.
Your husband and mine are the SAME. Falling asleep on the couch while watching a western. Half-finished beer.
Love that! So they’re a species then? LOL
AMEN to having the house to yourself. Alone time is absolutely necessary for me, and to have it in my own house is bliss. Bonus points if I can be in a huge fleecy snuggly top, leggings and Glerups, with a fire going and a good book. I’m a cliche….
Why is there never any chocolate when I really need (want) some???????
This is me, except I am usually too tired to even watch a movie or tv show. I can scarcely allow myself to veg on mindless web surfing and maybe read a few pages of a book before I deliciously pass out with laptop open, lamp on, then after 30-60 minutes put the laptop away and shut the light. All as my husband falls asleep watching a Western on the living room couch with a half finished beer very precariously perched.
Whew! Living the dream Lorraine! Living the damn dream. (Same at our house ?)
Are you my clone? ?
So happy we aren’t alone in this! I think a sign of a great show is when I break this habit to stay up and watch something. Like Fleabag! I even stayed up to watch PWB on SNL.
I love the Good Place! So excited to start the new season.
this was meant to be a reply to someone down below who mentioned the good place, not just, you know, a random outburst.
A very welcome outburst! I also love the Good Place.
I love your random outburst. It made me laugh out loud.
haha – so, so accurate! mine also includes a 5:00 glass of red wine being poured while starting to get dinner ready for my two kiddos, getting out of my work clothes and in to comfies. (when I say 5:00, I definitely mean 4:30 is when the wine is *really* getting poured, by 5:00 sounds a bit better).
I almost always change out of my work clothes as soon as I get home, to avoid toddler stickiness on my nice work clothes. Now my three year old insists on changing into something comfy when she gets home too, even though she’s just going from one pair of cotton leggings to another.
oh Alexis, that’s so cute!
Same same.
That reminds me, I need to replenish my supply of emergency chocolate!
Lol. The second one ?
We tell our kids we are watching something “scary.” It takes the curiosity away and for the most part we get a little peace. Saying it was for grown ups only would drive them to madness and make them feel like they were missing out something major. It helps that we turn on something for them in their playroom and get them all set up with snacks and fresh drinks.
Add drinking wine in a bubble bath and…
We’ve been trying to watch Killing Eve for almost a year. There’s always a child around. That’s why I love The Good Place. My almost eight year old can watch it with us.
OMG, emergency chocolate vs. fresh fruit, usually resulting in cereal at 10pm. Every Friday ever.
I can relate
This is what happens when i decide to stay at home on a friday night : i start with a healthy dinner ( just to feel good about myself ) and then two hours later i find myself looking for chocolate /cake .every.single.time.
We took back Friday and instituted date night two years ago. My husband and I alternate who plans the night. Generally, it’s an excuse/command to see or do something new together each week. Tonight, we’re going to Rockefeller Center to see the deli made of felt and then grab an outdoor drink in their beer garden.

This is the most accurate thing I have seen on the internet about my life to date. I mean seriously where is the chocolate and can my daughter please go to bed easily so I can just get one episode of parks and rec in?!?!
I feel the SAME way. I have a girl and two boys. My daughter ALWAYS comes out a million times “my tooth is loose,” “my leg hurts,” “my room is hot.” I begin to lose compassion. She’s always looking in my bowl (of chocolate) and checking out the TV. I blame myself because occasionally I’ll allow her to watch an HGTV show with me if my husband is traveling. Oops.
Oh my god emergency chocolate. Too real.
As bizarre as it may sound the first thing i do on a friday evening is grocery shopping . Somehow it calms me down .as soon as i get home i pour myself a glass of gazpacho or whatever happens to be around ,i sit down on my couch and that’s the end of pain !
Have a wonderful weekend jo and cup-of-jo readers !
Sometimes i just imagine us all going out for a glass of wine on a friday night !! Crazy how we can feel connected through blogs
Xx
I also prefer to grocery shop on fridays. It feels good to know I have all the food we need and not have to go out over the weekend.
I feel attacked.
