Thank you for sharing Annette and your experience with us. I love my mother in law, even though I’ve only known her in person since my in-laws came to the US a few months ago and we speak different languages. Sometimes it’s a little annoying that she always wants me to stay warm (including having socks on at all times), but then I recall how my departed dad always wanted me to be warm too. There is something about losing a parent that makes me incredibly grateful for the care of my mother-in-law, no matter how simple of an act it is. I will channel some of your energy as I plan my own wedding without my beloved dad.

She sounds just like Annette. Loving, gracious, strong, & everyone’s friend. Literally everyone she met thought she was a friend. She passed away 7 years ago & never got to meet our two youngest kids. I found out I was pregnant with #3 the day of her memorial service. #4 (our only girl) is her little twin in looks & personality. My husband says that our daughter is his mom’s contribution to our family.

My mom is also a wonderful MIL (according to my brothers/sisters-in-law). I am bound & determined to be just as awesome as Lin & my mom!

What stood out to me most was the end, about how the beginnings and endings of life, highs and lows end up superimposed. I have never heard it expressed so eloquently. We brought my son, who was born prematurely, home from the NICU on the same day my dad died suddenly, 12 years prior. We didn’t know when we’d get to bring him home, but when it happened that way it felt like it was unfolding just right.
