For the past decade, we’ve spent Christmas in Palm Springs, but this year, Alex’s mom moved east, so we headed to South Carolina. It was so beautiful! I put some photos on Instagram, but figured I’d share some here too, if you’d like to see…
We stayed on Folly Beach, a small coastal town about 20 minutes outside the city. Have you ever been (or do you live there)? I wondered if we’d feel far from the action, but it actually felt so relaxed and peaceful.
We lucked out with our Airbnb, which had a breezy porch and bedroom fans. Also, I would never think of painting a living room black, but it really worked.
We soaked up time with Alex’s mom and sister, who people say looks like former SNL comedian Cheri Oteri. Do you see it?
One evening, the boys were thrilled to rent a golf cart and explore the neighborhood.
“Riding a golf cart while drinking a Coke with caffeine? Now this is the life,” said eight-year-old Anton.
You can also hunt for shark teeth on the beach! (Our Airbnb host recommended the area around 9th Street West.)
We mostly cooked at home, but one night, we went out to dinner at the Post House Inn. How pretty is that eggshell blue exterior?
The hotel bedrooms are right up the stairs. Staying overnight must feel so homey and romantic.
We also spent a lot of time just “knocking around,” as Alex says. We would chill at the Airbnbs, playing Pictionary or making up games of Would You Rather.
One such night, the boys got in trouble for arguing, and I sent them to the bedroom to cool off. A few minutes later, Toby emerged with this note, which made me laugh for like two days. Always maximum drama! (He often signs notes, “Your beloved son, Tobias,” haha.)
Thank you, Folly Beach, for a great trip! What did you do over the holiday? Do you have any travel hopes/dreams for this coming year? xo
P.S. Traveling alone, and a weird thing we do on vacation.
