A Genius Kids’ Book for Trips

I don’t think this big is limited to kids only. It is quite interesting and even the grown ups can make a very good use of it for sure.

This is hilarious! We are traveling around Costa Rica and i really wanted my two boys engaged (3 and 6). So, I created “passports” for them to get stamps in when they saw something new (sloths, monkeys, frogs, hermit crabs, etc.) and when they ate something new. My picky 5-year old has eaten: star fruit, papaya, coconut, hummus, guacamole, passion fruit, and the list goes on. These may seem “normal” but for us this is a massive improvement! Of course, nothing goes un-stamped, and there is some mysterious treat lingering once all the stamps are gathered. We will have to figure that part of it out, but at least he has tried new things. Such an awesome idea! My baby is too small to utilise it but I imagine it to be a wonderful gift for mama friends!

This is a great idea! We moved to England at the end of last year and are really trying to take advantage of all the travel opportunities we now have. Our first trip was to Italy this November, and I made my three year old daughter a travel journal. I made stickers of all the places we were going, and each day, she would put a sticker or two in the journal and color around it. We would talk about what we’d seen, and I’d write down some of the things she told me about our experiences. (Her thoughts about Michelangelo’s David: big and naked.) To keep her engaged at the Uffizi Gallery, I made a scavenger hunt of all the paintings I wanted to see most. Sometimes she spotted them before I did. She got a “prize” from the gift shop if she found all of them, which she of course did. I even put a gelato rating system in the book, where she could draw the gelato on top of a cone and choose a happy, straight, or sad face, based on if she liked it (she chose a happy face every time!). It worked really well, and I will continue to do these for all our adventures.

This looks so great! We gave my daughter a mini polaroid camera (instamax) and a blank notebook last summer when we went to Barcelona and Copenhagen (we live in Vancouver), which she had fun with, but sometimes she wasn’t sure what to take photos of or draw. I think this would have be great to have with all of it’s prompts. :)

Beautiful. My wife and I have always given the kids a small sketchbook before embarking on a family trip. They use it as a scrap book, note book, sketch book and overall record keeper for their trip. This is kind of a similar idea but it always will have something for them to do when they run out of ideas ;)

Yes! My mom gave my brother and me journals for our first international trip as kids. We ended up staying a night at a castle in Ireland (!!!), which blew our little minds, but like a total creep, my entry for that evening was, “I bet someone died in this room. The walls are thick.” I probably could have used some prompts like the ones in this book.

Love the idea of a badge for going with the flow. Wow… such a good idea. That can make all the difference when you are traveling. The more you can “flex,” the better the trip will be. Pretty much goes for everyone in the family. Very cute resource.

What a sweet idea! It reminds me of a book my kids gave me for Christmas this year (one for each kiddo). It’s called “Q & A a day for Kids: A three year journal”. Each dated page has a question at the top, and 3 sections below— one for each year’s entry. It has become my favorite part of the day to ask my kiddos questions like “Name one troublemaker in your life. Explain.” And “When were you brave?” It is so heartwarming and tender to hear their surprising and interesting answers and to think about what they may say next year, and the year after. It’s also so interesting for me to observe myself as I simply act as transcriber (and resist the urge to edit!!).

Ah, man. I wish it was available now! About to head down to southern Utah beginning this weekend to hike around Zion with my two boys. Breaking up a 9.5 hour drive from Boise in Salt Lake for an overnight (all you can eat breakfast buffet will be highlight for boys) and plan on checking out their planetarium which is open late on weekends.

Listen, trying new food and going with the flow are two things I can definitely work on when I travel. I think earning a badge would be motivating for me, too!

Awesome! Their book “Me” literally just arrived today and is perfect to do with my son (5) tomorrow for the snow storm! What a neat book! I need to remember this for when my little one is older.

This seems perfect for my 6 and 3 year old and I bet even my 8 year old would get into it. Awesome when a book can entertain so many ages (and us parents enjoy it too).
