Hi Nikki, book podcasts like Currently Reading, Sarah’s bookshelves live or What should I read next are places I hear about new books.

Also, instagram if you’re on it. Follow the hashtag #bookstagram or specific bookish accounts and you’ll see plenty of new releases and backlist books.

I also adored Still Life, and read it because I am such a fan of her earlier book Tin Man. Highly, highly recommend Tin Man if you have not read it yet.

A big question! A couple ideas… people seem to get personally offended when rich, famous, beautiful people complain; the idea of having a “monarchy” is offensive to a lot of folks, so perhaps the fame/attention granted to this book seems ludicrous; lots of people were emotionally invested in his mother and whether reasonable or not, it could make the family dis-harmony on display distasteful; for people who grew up in Britain, perhaps it hurts their feelings to see someone they felt invested in leave their country for a sunny place that seems (from the outside, I don’t live in either place) like the antithesis of the UK.

… all that being said, I’m reading the book myself! I was definitely curious and it has not disappointed.

I couldn’t stop reading it!

How To Do Nothing, Odell (nonfiction about the attention economy, super interesting and thought provoking).

Wish You Were Here, Picoult (novel set at the beginning of the pandemic. What a trip to read fiction about what we just lived through).

Bomb Shelter, Philpott (poignant essays about motherhood and “middle age” through which I nodded along in agreement).
