Help! What TV Shows Do You Watch as a Couple?

I know this is an old post but I had to come in here with the recommendation to watch Red Oaks. My husband and I loved it and we do not have many shows we can watch together!

And yes, TED LASSO!!! That was one of our absolute faves.

Ozark on Netflix, so good!

is one of the most underrated comedies ever made, and it almost pains me that it doesn’t earn more praise. Right from the title sequence, which documents BoJack’s sad decline from network sitcom star to drunken has-been—set to the beautiful theme song written by the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney—this is one of the most thoughtful comedies ever made. Which doesn’t mean it’s not hilarious, of course. Will Arnett is the perfect voice for BoJack, and Paul F. Tompkins, who is in my mind the funniest man on planet Earth, could not be better suited to the child-like Mr. Peanut Butter. This is a show that isn’t above a visual gag or vicious banter or a wonderfully cheap laugh, but it also looks some very hard realities of life straight in the eye. There are times when you will hate BoJack—this is not a straight redemption story, and the minute you think he’s on the upswing, he will do something absolutely horrible to let you down. (There’s a special irony in the fact that a horse is one of the most human characters on TV, and the unblinking examination of his character makes “Escape from L.A.” one of the best episodes of TV this year.) So why isn’t it loved beyond a strong cult following? Maybe it’s the anthropomorphism that keeps people away, or maybe it’s the animation, but I implore you: Look beyond those elements, settle into the story, and let yourself be amazed by a comedy that straddles the line between hilarious and sad like no other. —

My husband watches Jeopardy, sometimes I do too.

A few that I don’t think I’ve seen mentioned that are fantastic:
1. Hannah Gadsby: ‘Nanette’ (I peed my pants laughing)
2. The Haunting of Hill House (super freaky and incredibly intriguing)
3. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (I loved Sabrina the Teenage Witch – this is a very dark version of it)
4. The Flash (surprisingly pulls you in – the story between him and his girlfriend and his mom who died – such a kind hearted yet action filled show, and also hilarious)
5. Sherlock (the one with Benedict Cumberbatch … OMG, my husband and I watched the series twice it was that fantastic. they develop all the characters, every single actor is phenomenal/perfectly cast, and the story lines are to die for)

Also currently watching the popular Mrs. Maisel. I love Schitts Creek but my husband does not :(.

Ones we watched in the past that we would get excited about: Dexter, Fringe, Stranger Things, the first American Vandal and Game of Thrones.

We just had our second baby and have mindlessly been watching House Hunters while trying to get her to sleep but really wanted a new to us show to get into. I’ve enjoyed reading through all of comments, apparently we need to watch Schitt’s Creek! The only one that I can recommend that I haven’t seen listed is Detroiters. It has sadly been cancelled but the pilot episode was probably the funniest I’ve ever seen. I actually cried I laughed so hard (maybe its the sleep deprivation?!) Any Veep or Parks lovers would love this show!

For years we would watch The Amazing Race as a family ( kids loved it!) but the season where it became part Bachelor/Dating Game we lost interest.
Big Bang theory is still a fave!

We both like Curb, Seinfeld, Office, Parks & Rec, Freaks & Geeks, Master of None, Its Always Sunny. We watched True Detective and Game of Thrones together, but not too close to bedtime because ?
He can’t stand Call the Midwife or Handmaids Take but will tolerate Sex and the City. I hate South Park, The Simpsons, and can only sometimes tolerate Family Guy. But to be real, these days we dialed with our toddler so most of our family tv time is devoted to Tumbleleaf?

oh.. forgot one more that we just whipped through was I’m Sorry. It’s a “real life” show, but my husband liked it. Husband said the female lead character is the female version of Larry David/Curb your Enthusiasm.. except she’s a mom.

My husband sounds a lot like yours :O . I agree with alot of shows mentioned above, especially that I alone have watched. Our latest show together was Killing Eve- so good! Also Ozark and Catastrophe. The only cooking show he likes that we watch together is A Chef’s Life (vivian howard).. it’s PBS – not sure how available it is for streaming, but after watching a few more current episodes we bought a season 1 and 2.

Master of None has been an all time favorite. Makes me think you might like Silicon Valley as much as we do. The writers are geniuses! I’m watching with my husband a second time and we like it even better because we can focus on the brilliant humor (and take pressure off of plot).

I just asked friends on my insta stories this exact question last week and I would say the two shows that were recommended far more than the others: Schitt’s Creek and Marvelous Mrs Maisel. I’m going to give them a go.

Detectorists (BBC show on Netflix and Hulu)! And Love (on Netflix)! And if you love Bojack, you might want to try Rick and Morty.

My sweet (twin!) sister and her husband invite me to join them for TV nights. I tend to like the same things they like to watch together and since I’m single, I can’t really weigh in on the what-do-you-watch-with-your-partner part of this question. But shows that my brother-in-law, sister, and I like to watch together =

Doc Martin (BBC – hilarious)
Schitt’s Creek (Ditto to the previous post! Give it a handful of episodes…)
British Baking… anything
The Durrells in Corfu (charming and hilarious and beautiful scenery)

Sex education is good – we’re watching it right now

Not sure if anyone’s mentioned it yet, but you need to watch Schitt’s Creek.

The first episode had me doubting I’d like it, but it has turned out to be so sweet and kindhearted. It’s also surprisingly deft at being inclusive without throwing it in your face.

It’s hard to explain the series, but just give yourselves 3 episodes to get into it before you decide if you want to keep going. They’re only 20 minutes long anyway.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Call the Midwife are two great shows that focus heavily on female characters without feeling like they’re writing an archetypal “strong” female lead just to “appease the feminists.” I’m thinking Alex might like Call the Midwife, too, because it takes place in England post WWII!
