Can confirm as a high school teacher. All the gentle parenting I use on my 4-year-old, I also use on my 14-year-old students. And a snack is almost always the cure or at least the start of a cure for both!

Mary Oliver’s wonderful pup was Percy! Fascinating interpretation about the last three lines being about death. I read the poem very literally as Percy’s suggestions on how to live life. Sleeping as a pup next to a human poikilotherm would be to give up your body heat (one of the best things about snuggling a dog!) and very much to trust. I <3 Mary Oliver! Hahaha. As I was graduating from college, I asked my professor/ mentor, “so this means I’ll need to start doing my hair and makeup everyday?” I thought being a professional meant dressing the part, and that meant makeup to me. Thankfully, I work from home now, but even in office it just wasn’t a focus. I pride myself on being the nerdy analyst with a brain that matters more than looks, but I can’t help getting like certain roles are predisposed to the ladies with their nails done, actual hairstyles, and dressed smartly. I’m curious how this makeup free/ done up dynamic plays out across career paths.
