everlane white pants

What are you wearing this summer? We asked our team of writers and editors to share their favorite pieces…

Joanna Goddard, editor
Three words to describe your style: simple, breezy, walkable
Travel destination: England to see my grandmother.
Beach read: Chrysta Bilton’s memoir Normal Family, coming out in July, is wildly compelling. She talks about her loving, dysfunctional childhood, leading up to the moment that she realized her dad had been secretly donating sperm — and she had dozens, even hundreds, of half-siblings.
Summer food: Cape Cod potato chips

“I’m loving midi dresses these days, and this cotton one with subtle dots feels really pretty. I pair it with these slides I’ve worn for years (similar version here), and this enormous tote fits all our picnic/beach/weekend gear.”

Jannelle Sanchez, associate editor
Three words to describe your summer style: colorful, comfy, flirty
Travel destination: Weekend roadtrip to Angels Camp, where we’ll pop into wineries, hike under sequoias and swim in a deliciously cold lake.
Beach read: Nora Ephron’s Heartburn, it’s hilarious, infuriating and touching.
Summer food: Caprese salad with nectarines

Converse high tops are always classic, and, with this gingham top, I just want to look like a picnic blanket. For days when I wear space buns and need sun protection, I’ll wear this visor.”

Christine Pride, Race Matters columnist
Three words to describe your style: cool, relaxed, timeless
Travel destination: Girls’ trip to a New Jersey lake house.
Beach read: Love and Marriage by Monica Ali
Summer food: Grilled hot dogs

“I am obsessed with jumpsuits and this yellow is the perfect summer color. I’ve wanted these jeans for a while and finally found them on clearance at Saks. They’re so soft (elastic waistband!). And I’ve decided this is the year of the silk headband/turban.”

Jenny Rosenstrach, food columnist
Three words to describe your style: easy, sporty, classic
Travel destination: Kiawah Island, South Carolina, with my husband and daughters.
Beach read: I’m looking forward to reading Marrying the Ketchups by Jennifer Close. It’s supposed to be great.
Summer food: Soft serve with sprinkles

Birkenstocks work well with jeans, shorts, dresses — they’re just so versatile. They used to be my crunchy shoe, but now with the brass buckle, I can wear them out to dinner. Also, I never thought I could get away with wide-leg jeans because I’m short! But then I tried these and they felt cute and put together. Those pants, plus a T-shirt or tank, was my go-to outfit last summer, and I plan to do the same this year.”

Alex Ronan, contributing writer
Three words to describe your style: Post-swim hang, though I wish it were more “she wore what?”
Travel destination: I’m excited to visit friends in Sicily
Beach read: Just tore through Heartbroke by Chelsea Bieker and always love what the publishing project Dorothy puts out.
Summer food: Fresh Jersey corn and tomatoes

“I ordered cabbage slides several weeks ago and then announced to anyone who would listen that they are the sandal of the season. So far, I haven’t seen another pair in the wild. They’re not meant for long walks, but they’re perfect for showing up at a picnic in the mood for a compliment. When wearing all white, I don’t worry if the pieces are slightly different shades. Pack a mini stain stick!”
