I shared this with my 12 year old daughter last night (during her bedtime rambling). She cracked up and was like, “ACCURATE.” Even the tape thing, which you would think would be a short-lived stage. She taped over her mouth just last week, haha.
The slime one is accurate! I babysat three elementary school-aged boys for five days as a teenager (who between myself and their parents thought this was a good idea, I can’t remember). I brought slime making kits as a surprise, and at the end of the week the youngest proudly pronounced me their “second-favorite babysitter ever.” I’ll take it.
Sprinkles!
ALL.OF.THESE…. especially the tape! What’s with tape?! Haha
so much tape! i have some fun washi tape in the craft drawer and my 5 year old keeps finding it and taping everything! “it’s OUR tape, we share. and i needed it!”
hahaha
I lol at the sticky hands illustration. Last week I was having my 3rd graders dictate their own
sentences with their spelling words and more than half my class wrote a sentence using the word *sticky* in the context of their hand or hands being sticky. I chuckled as I floated around the room reading their dry erase boards.
We called our girls Jamhands and StickyFingers for years. Love my girls, but those hands were gross!!!
Last night in bed I asked my kiddo what she most loved doing with me. She responded with the wisdom of Christopher Robin: “Nothing. You know when adults ask you what you’re doing and you say, oh nothing and then you go and do it”. ❤️
I love this so much.
mysteriously sticky hands…i work in the child care field and this is so true! 😉
How did DANDELIONS not make this list?!?
They’re sticky for sure!
We always put tape in our boys’ stockings for Christmas and it’s always a hit!
Uhh, THANK YOU!! This is genius & I cannot believe I haven’t thought of it sooner. Santa always brings my kids a new toothbrush (clearly I have no shame in making the oral care game more exciting!)
But tape – that is perfect!!
LOL “tape (all kinds)” !!
Oh man, SLIME. I’m feeling that at my house right now!
A little thing I once wrote that this reminded me of:
Tonight as you lay in bed,
you whispered to me,
Mom, when I woke up from my nap,
you were gone.
Don’t ever leave me again.
OK, I said,
and I crawled into your bed to
feel your skin
and
listen to you breathe.
Oh my heart ❤️
This has to be my favorite comic of Grace’s of all time. It has taken me a loooong time to appreciate my children’s love languages. As they would sit at the table, pulling all of the tissues out of the tissue box and ripping foot-long pieces of scotch tape to secure said tissues with rocks and leaves, I would instantly feel like I wasn’t properly teaching my kids to conserve, not waste, etc. Then something clicked in me that their creative minds were taking journeys (and ones in fact that I loved since I am not a fan of “toys”) and I wanted to support them. Now whenever I go to the store, I make sure to buy at least three scotch tapes with the specific vision of them at their creation work.
Ahh! Thank you for this. I strongly dislike all the things in this comic (with the exception of bedtime ramblings) so I think I missed the point until I read your comment! I can get so caught up in the waste of their creations that I miss the bigger picture. I appreciate your take on the comic and the reminder to enjoy the journey of their creativity and support them. I will buy more scotch tape the next time I stop at the store!
@Fran, right there with you on the strong dislike (slime!! it shall not pass! lol). So, a second thank you to Erin for this reminder, I really really needed it.
@Fran and @Kari, I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one who had this struggle. Another activity/kid love language to add to the list would be excavating bars of soap and leaving soap chunks in the bathroom sink and tub. I know there will be a day when they no longer get excited about soap, and this fun activity will naturally fade from their lives and mine.
It’s so nice to know that I’m not the only parent who feels this way! I really do love these posts because they seem so timely. As soon as I am feeling frustrated about something, a post about it pops up and normalizes the feeling. Thanks, COJ!
And bandaids!
Yes!! Came here to say the same lol! And glitter haha
Ditto!! My kids are obsessed with bandaids.
Bubbles are also a big kiddie love language.
I’m pregnant and I cannot wait for sticky hands. :)
Just wait til they drag them through your hair!! EEYOW!!! lol…
This is spot-on
Man is this so true!! Bedtime ramblings with my 10 year old are my favorite right now.
Pockets full of rocks, worries and dreams whispered at bedtime, crayon masterpieces, owies that need kisses, and spontaneous snuggles.
So. Many. Rocks.
Very important rocks and sticks.
Also sticks!
